TV drama series made a comeback Monday on Chongqing's satellite TV channel, a year after the metropolis in southwest China replaced primetime TV series with revolutionary programs to restore "red morals."

Early last year, Chongqing Satellite Television replaced TV series with news and locally-produced programs, including "Faith," "Review of Classic Movies" and "Daily Red Songs," during the primetime viewing hours of 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The channel's parent company, Chongqing Broadcasting Group, said at that time that it was striving "to create the first provincial-level red channel."

"Daily Red Songs," a red song-singing competition launched in March 2011 as a daily TV show, will only air once a week, and its name will be changed to "Weekend Red Songs," an official with the broadcasting group who asked not to be named said Monday.

The show will be extended from the previous 15 minutes to 45 minutes, according to the official.

However, the official denied media reports that the TV channel has resumed broadcasting commercials.

Like the primetime TV series, commercial advertising was also suspended last year.
