21 injured in SW China village clash

A clash between villagers and the employees of a construction company on Saturday left 21 people injured in southwest China's Yunnan Province, the local government said Monday.

The clash happened at around 3 p.m. on Saturday when local villagers were trying to stop workers from moving construction machinery onto a site in Maojie village, Jiumo township, Guangnan county, the county government said in a statement released Monday.

The workers were employees of the Jianji Construction Engineering Co.

Twenty-one people who were injured in the conflict, including five seriously, have been hospitalized, said the statement.

It is not yet known what triggered the clash, and a police investigation is underway, it said.
