A dissatisfied patient who stabbed a surgeon in a Beijing hospital has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.

The Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court on Friday ordered that Wang Baoming be imprisoned and pay a fine of 530,000 yuan (84,048 U.S. dollars).

Wang, a 54-year-old throat-cancer patient, attacked Xu Wen, a surgeon at Tongren Hospital on Sept. 15, 2011.

Wang stabbed the doctor 18 times in her arms, head and back after accusing the surgeon of malpractice during an operation in 2006.

Police detained Wang shortly after the attack. Xu was heavily injured, but her life was not threatened.

China has seen growing numbers of violent doctor-patient disputes.

The latest incident involves a 17-year-old boy who stabbed a medical practitioner to death and injured three others last month at a hospital in the northeastern city of Harbin, after he was not given immediate treatment
