Wang's bus was taking 31 Shanghai tourists to view peony blossom in Changshu city on Sunday, when it cut through highway barriers and collided head-on with a heavy truck coming in the opposite direction at 9:25 a.m.

Hospitalized after the incident, Wang tried to jump from the 11th floor of a hospital building on Sunday afternoon but was stopped by firefighters.

Following the crash, Shanghai's transport authorities have suspended the tour bus's owner -- Shanghai Yili Car Rental Company.

The eastern municipality on Tuesday launched a safety overhaul on the operation of tour buses.

Government departments and companies were ordered to learn a lesson from the tragedy and carry out safety checks.

The city's transport and port bureau has vowed to scrutinize the tourism industry with "zero tolerance."
