A total of 692,625 infectious disease cases were reported on the Chinese mainland in April, with 1,235 deaths attributed to the infections, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said Wednesday.
Most of the deaths were caused by Category B notifiable diseases, the MOH said on its website, adding that the five most frequently reported diseases last month included hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and gonorrhea.
Category C infectious diseases left 77 people dead in April, with foot-and-mouth disease, mumps and infectious diarrhea reported the most, according to the MOH.
The only case of cholera, which falls in Category A, in last month caused no death, the ministry said.
