8 dead, 14 injured in China road accidents

Eight people were killed and 14 injured Sunday in a coach-minibus collision in Beijing and multiple pileups in central Henan province.

A coach that ran on the wrong direction collided with a minibus on a highway in Huairou district in the northern suburb of Beijing at about 3 p.m. Sunday, the Beijing traffic management bureau said in a statement.

The coach driver has been put under custody of police.

The crash scene had been cleared by Sunday evening and traffic was back to normal.

Also on Sunday, multiple pileups on a highway in the city of Kaifeng in Henan killed four people and left another nine critically injured, local police said.

At the time of the pileups at about 5 am, the highway was shrouded in heavy fog and visibility was low.
