Regarding the topic of anti-corruption

-"To be turned into iron, the metal itself must be strong"

The whole Party must remain vigilant of the issues-at-hand. To be turned into iron, the metal itself must be strong. Our responsibility is to make sure that the Party supervises its own conduct and enforces strict discipline, said Xi Jinping when making his public debut as newly elected general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Nov. 15.

- "Worms infest decaying matter"

"A large number of facts show that corruption could kill the Party and ruin the country, if it were to become increasingly severe, and so we must remain vigilant," Xi Jinping told the political bureau as it gathered for its first group session after the 18th National Congress of the CPC on Oct. 17. Xi warned the whole Party that worms infest decaying matter.

-"Trust can never replace supervision"

"Trust can never replace supervision," said Wang Qishan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, as well as anti-corruption chief of the CPC, during a seminar held to seek suggestions from China's legal academic circle on November 30. Wang pledged to enhance the supervision of officials in order to prevent corruption and improve the Party's work-style.

Regarding the topic of reform

-"Tackle difficulties and venture along dangerous paths"

Xi Jinping, the new leader of China's ruling Communist Party of China, vowed, "No pause in reform, and no pause in opening up," during his trip to southern China's Guangdong Province from Dec. 7 to 11. "We should dare to tackle difficulties and venture along dangerous paths as to break through the barriers to reform presented by ideological differences and vested interests," Xi said.

-"Reform is still China's biggest bonus"

China has achieved great things over 30-plus years of reform and opening up, and is set to further boost reforms at the current new starting point as to ensure its people can lead better lives, said Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee as well as vice premier of China, while chairing a conference on national comprehensive accessory reform pilot areas on Nov. 21. "We have benefited from reform over the past 30 years. ... We have to march on as there is no way back," Li said.

-"Economic successes are closely related to reform"

Many around the world have seen the tremendous economic achievements China has made, said China's vice premier Li Keqiang when meeting former US president Jimmy Carter on Dec. 11. In fact, economic successes are closely related to social progress and comprehensive reforms.

Regarding the topic of economy

-"Growth must be tangible, not exaggerated"

China must maintain economic growth and persevere in making market-oriented reforms in the face of multiple economic risks, said Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, at a symposium held with non-Party figures on Nov. 30. "The growth that we achieve must be tangible, not exaggerated, and should be efficient, of good quality and sustainable," he said.

- "When faced with difficulties and challenges, strive for the best possible results"

China must face difficulties and challenges and simply strive for the best economic results possible. Difficulties and challenges, as well as advantages and positive factors, should be taken into account in order to promote healthy economic growth in a solid way, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said during a meeting with government officials and entrepreneurs in southern China's Guangdong Province on Dec. 9.

- "It is useful for China to learn from international experiences"

When meeting with President of the World Bank Group Yong Kim on Nov. 28, Vice Premier Li Keqiang stated that China has become a middle-income country in spite of its uneven development . Bilateral data cooperation particularly has further progressed in recent years, which is useful for China in order to learn from international experiences during development, Li said.

Regarding the topic of work-style

-" Empty talk is harmful to the nation, whereas practical jobs can help it thrive"

"Empty talk is harmful to the nation, whereas practical jobs can help it thrive," said Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, on Nov. 29 when visiting "The Road towards Renewal" exhibition in Beijing.

- "Loud words and empty talk do not work"

The tenets of the 18th Party Congress should be implemented thoroughly in work, study and words, said Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, at a symposium attended by officials and citizen members of Beijing's enterprises, villages and universities on Dec. 10. "It is key to further change the style of work, study and words in order to be more realistic and practical," Liu urged. Loud words and empty talk do not work, Liu said.

-"Do not simply recite a written speech and learn how to reflect deeply"

Wang Qishan, anti-corruption chief of the CPC, asked participants in a seminar to speak concisely and thoroughly and at the same time emphasize key points and try not to merely recite their written speeches. Wang also urged those participants to cut down on the formal greetings in order to have more exchanges and interactions. The seminar was held to seek suggestions from China's legal academic circle in regards to the enhancement of official supervision, as to battle corruption, and improving the party's working style in Beijing on Nov. 30.

The words and moves of this new generation of Chinese leaders have gotten much publicity across the country, and even around the world, after they made their public debut on Nov. 15. Their perseverance and pragmatic work-style has received good press both at home and abroad.

China's new leadership is trying to shed bureaucratic and formalistic practices by showing their new work-approach.

China's new leaders, whose new work-approach has set an example to both Party and people, have taken their abovementioned actions in a bid to answer the question "how should we continue to move forward", said analysts.
