A spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council expressed deep concern for those who suffered from the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that jolted Taiwan's Nantou County Wednesday morning.

Expressing condolences for the victims of the quake, spokesman Yang Yi said he hopes those affected will be able to return to normalcy as soon as possible.

The mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits also conveyed condolences for the affected people in a letter sent to the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation.
