The former head of Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) Timothy Tong has appeared before legislators looking into claims he misused public money during his time in office, but the meeting was cut short after one and a half hours, with members of the Public Accounts Committee complaining they failed to get any useful information out of him.
During the session, Tong, who is accused of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars of public money on entertaining mainland officials, was asked why the ICAC had needed to stock up on so much alcohol. He said it was needed for receptions for delegations from the mainland and overseas.
Speaking after the meeting, Tong said he respected the work of the investigations into his spending, adding that he would admit responsibility if he is found to have done anything wrong.
The chairman of the committee Abraham Shek said they would issue Tong with a summons demanding him to return and give them answers which would be protected under Legco's Powers and Privileges Ordinance.
