China will exert more efforts in restructuring its scientific and technological systems, wiping out obstacles that constrain innovation, declared Wan Gang, minister of Science and Technology, at the 16th China Beijing International High-Tech Exposition.

In his keynote speech themed "Innovation-Driven Transformation and Development", the minister said that the gross value of the high-tech industrial output in China increased from 5.7 trillion yuan in 2008 to more than 10 trillion yuan in 2012.

The country's high-tech industrial export value topped the global list in 2012.

Scientific and technological contributions to China's economic growth increased from 48.8 percent in 2008 to 51.7 percent in 2011. The development of innovation–oriented programs have resulted in remarkable accomplishments, said Wan.

China has planned and is well prepared for an industrial transformation, added the minister.

He also pointed out that reform and innovation are the driving forces for an industrial revolution. People have a clear vision of the direction and focus of the emerging strategic industries, but there are still some uncertainties about concrete technological roadmaps and business models.

Scientific and technological innovations are the keys to the development of emerging strategic industries, but what matters most are reforms in various areas such as the economic system, and the commercial model, which require the efforts of society as a whole, according to Wan.

The minister also stated that the Chinese government will support the development of small, and medium-sized tech-enterprises by providing capital, improving the service system, and creating a more favorable market.

The 16th China Beijing International High-Tech Exposition, inaugurated on May 21 at the Great Hall of the People, will conclude on May 26.
