The Hong Kong Customs seized 0.8 kilograms of heroin concealed in a metal gear at the Hong Kong International Airport on Thursday, which was the second time that the concealment method has been unveiled in the last two weeks.

The drug was found in an air consignment parcel declared as a metal gear from Tanzania, and it could only be detected until the metal gear was cut apart by a saw.

On Aug. 2, Customs officers of the Airport Command seized 0.7 kilograms of heroin hidden in the same way. The seized drugs in the two cases were totally valued at 1.3 million HK dollars (about 167,500 U.S. dollars) and they were believed to belong to the same syndicate. Further investigation is underway.

Under Hong Kong's Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offense. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of 5 million HK dollars.
