A 45-year-old railway system employee is being held by police for removing a 12-meter section of track and causing a train to derail last Sunday in Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, youth.cn reported.

Fifteen people were injured when the K7304 train derailed en route to the provincial capital Harbin.

Wu Zhenjin, a senior chief of the company's track maintenance division, told police that he had acted alone in damaging the track, according to the report.

Wu reportedly failed in a bid for a promotion about six months ago. The report said this grievance might have provided a motive for his actions.

Police were cited as saying Wu had been brought to Harbin, where he will remain in custody pending charges.

Railway authorities have not commented on the train's derailment.
