The new spokeswoman for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has made her debut.

Senior Colonel Xing Guangmei was the only spokeswoman of the entire PLA when seven PLA units installed spokespeople last November. She spoke to the media on Tuesday in Weihai of east China's Shandong Province, where a sea memorial for the First Sino-Japanese War was held on Wednesday.

Xing is a doctor of law and is conducting postdoctoral research in areas including marine security policies and marine security in the Navy's academic institute.

She was an instructor in a military school in Qingdao of Shandong before working in the institute.

Spokeswomen often grab media attention in China, where their select number includes Fu Ying of the National People's Congress annual session, Hua Chunying of the Foreign Ministry, and Fan Liqing of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
