Senior leader Liu Yunshan has called on officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to be honest in life and work and restrain themselves from abusing power.

Liu, president of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at the autumn semester opening ceremony of the school on Monday. He is also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau.

Liu's remarks echoed requirements for officials to improve their life and work style raised by President Xi Jinping in March: "be rigorous in upholding morality, using power and disciplining one self; be honest in making decisions, doing businesses and behaving one self."

"These requirements of restraint and honesty reflects the Party's strict self-management... and every Party official should stick to them as the basic principles to live as a human being and use power as an official at work," Liu said.

Liu stressed morality as a priority for all officials, urging them to cultivate their own sound life and work styles from handling difficult missions and solving complicated problems.

"Every Party member should fully realize the fact that their power is bestowed by the people... and they should handle this power with awe and always exercise cautions against reducing it to a tool with which they seek personal ends," Liu added.
