A senior Chinese official is suggesting the corruption probe into former Politburo member Zhou Yongkang should be viewed as a sign of the government's firm stance toward fighting corruption.

Jiang Wei, head of the office in charge of judicial reforms, has made the suggestion while answering questions about why the Zhou Yongkang case wasn't brought up during the CPC's meeting about the rule of law last week.

In answering the question, he also says he's unfamiliar with the progress of the investigation into Zhou Yongkang, and says he's "unable to" answer questions about the investigation.

Zhou Yongkang, this country's former Public Security minister and member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee, has been put under investigation for corruption.

He is the highest-ranking official to be targeted in the Party's anti-corruption campaign.
