China's income gap index has grown to 10.7, a proportional index calculated between the 20 percent richest and 20 percent poorest in a country.

The figure is 2.3 points higher than that of the United States and 6.2 points higher than that of Russia.

It is irrational for a frontline worker to get no more than 2,000 yuan (US$321) a month and a senior executive officer 20,000 to 30,000 yuan, an anonymous expert from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council said at the Fourth National Income Distribution and Corporate Salary System Reform Summit held recently in Beijing.

"The widening income disparity has severely affected the country's productivity," said the expert.

According to the expert, state-owned enterprises in China will continue to carry out income distribution reforms with fluctuating salary systems. The flexible parts of individual incomes should be related to the performance of companies.
