A girl in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, in southeast China was robbed by a man wearing a surgical mask on the very early morning of Jan. 6, 2015. The man held a knife to the girl’s neck and asked for money. The girl gave all the 900 yuan in her possession to him, but he still would not let her go. Just then, the girl fell to the ground suddenly, begging the robber to take her away since she had just “broken up with her boyfriend,” which completely freaked the robber out.

On her way home at 1:40 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2015, the young woman, surnamed Wang, was confronted with a man wearing a surgical mask. He walked towards her, caught her by the throat and held a knife to her neck. “Give me your money! I don’t want to hurt you, so long as you do what I tell you,” he threatened. Wang handed over the 900 yuan she had in her pockets, but it did not satisfy him.

At that point, Wang sank to the ground suddenly as if she was drunk, crying out loudly, “Please take me away, my boyfriend dumped me.” Before the robber could realize what she was doing, Wang kissed him on the face.

The robber was astonished, but he continued asking for money. He led Wang to an ATM machine, holding her scarf in his hands. Fortunately, a taxi showed up on the street, and Wang seized the opportunity – she used all her strength to push the man away from her, ran to the taxi and called the police.

The robber was ultimately arrested by the police, thanks to Wang’s calm and clever reaction. Authorities advise everyone to avoid any confrontations in any situation where personal safety is at risk. Wait for an opportunity to get away when the other party lets down his or her guard.
