The rescue was the result of dedicated Shenzhen dog-lovers who staged a 36-hour sit-in to secure the dogs' release, according to Compassion for China's Animals.
The dogs were being killed for their meat. It is unclear how many dog carcasses were seized and destroyed. The "dog-den" had no health permit and all the dogs had no tags. Dead and caged dogs were also found.
