A total of 108,300 people currently residing in remote or poor areas in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region are to be relocated this year, the regional poverty relief office said.

More than 85,000 live in such tough conditions that rural life is unsustainable. The other 23,000 are ecological migrants, threatened by geological disasters and a fragile environment.

Over 150 new residential communities are to be built with the kind of standard facilities current communities lack, including such basics as water and power supplies, schools, TV and Internet access and fitness equipment.

Detailed follow-up policies concern employment, household registration and social welfare.
