The first shipment of medical supplies to treat the victims of the Taiwan water park blaze left Beijing by air Tuesday.

The supplies include nearly 1,300 boxes of dressings urgently needed by hospitals, said the mainland's Red Cross Society in a press release.

Several other consignments will follow, it said.

About 230 victims of the blaze on June 27 are in a critical condition, according to the local health authority on Saturday.

Among the nearly 500 people injured, two have died and 274 remain in intensive care.

The blaze happened during an event at a park in Taiwan's New Taipei City. A fire broke out at the main stage of the event after a large quantity of flammable power exploded, flying off in all directions and engulfing the audience.

The mainland health department and Red Cross Society offered medical assistance to Taiwan on July 2. Several private companies and individuals also expressed willingness to donate medical supplies.
