A couple born with dwarfism in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, are often mistaken as pupils in the street. However, the true ages of Shi Hongfeng and his wife Song Kan are respectively 34 and 29 and their heights approximately 1.4 meters and 1.2 meters.

A couple born with dwarfism in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning Province, are often mistaken as pupils in the street.

Being as small as they are, the couple dared not to hold hands when walking on the streets before marriage. They surprised the clerk when registering for marriage, and the photographer had to lie down to take their wedding photos.

Because of their tiny figures they had to order wedding gowns, costumes and furniture particularly designed for their size.

Song was diagnosed with dwarfism when she attended middle school. Her height at that time was equal to an eight-year-old girl and showed no signs of growth. The doctor told her parents that Song's hypophysis had been pressing on her neural network which restricted the body's ability to keep growing.

Despite her generally good performance in the subjects required by the middle school, Song stopped receiving higher education after nine-year compulsory schooling, because she couldn't stand the obvious contrast of heights with her schoolmates. The diagnosis categorized her as having third-degree disability.

Being tiny, Song has been denied many jobs. Not until 2013 did she find a job at a Carrefour supermarket where some customers even mistook her as an illegal child worker.

When Song reached the age for marriage, she couldn't accept marrying a man much taller than she was, because, according to her, it would look more like a family of two generations than a newly-wedded couple.

However, a customer in Carrefour noticed Song and introduced her to a man by giving her the man's QQ account (China's equivalent to Skype). Thrilled at the Shi's height which is about 1.4 meters, Song was full of joy at their first rendezvous in Carrefour. Song's happiness echoed the man's hilarity.

They started dating, visiting cinemas and dining together. But to avoid the misunderstanding they never held hands when walking on the streets. They tied the knot half a year later and their registration surprised the clerk who checked their information meticulously to ensure that was not a prank played by mischievous pupils.

Their life after the marriage is simple and blissful and the couple is looking forward to having a child. They received thorough physical checks and will have a baby when the outcomes of their physical conditions reach the requirement. Besides, they know that in spite of the dwarfism of parents, there is a chance for the baby to grow to a normal height.
