The anti-lupus drug containing Artemisinin, which was discovered by Tu, is going through examination and will be trialed at clinics when getting the approval of the China Food and Drug Administration, according to the website of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) on Feb. 1.

"Artemisinin is new to us. We should further study its mechanisms and make the full use of it," Tu suggested to the NHFPC recently. Researchers should also work hard to address tolerance for Artemisinin after repeated use, she said.

Tu was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of Artemisinin, which has been used to treat malaria and saved millions of lives across the globe, especially in the developing world.
