The 1,010.8 meter bridge links Double Happiness Island with Zhangzhou Development Zone, which is just off Xiamen Bay. It is expected that the island will become an amusement and ecological park by 2024.

Construction of the island started in 2010. It was China's first artificial island project for commercial development.

The island will reclaim 182 hectares from the sea, and will feature a 11.7 km coastline.

By Friday, workers had completed 30 million cubic meters of earthwork for the reclamation area.

Inspired by Taiji, the island will be in the shape of two encircled dolphins.

Work has already finished on the basic infrastructure and real estate development. On Friday, entertainment facilities were put into use, supporting activities such as a film festival, a beer festival, self-driving camping and a honeymoon festival.
