Five people are missing in a landslide caused by downpours in southwest China's Sichuan province early Sunday.

The landslide happened in a mountain village in Meigu County of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture at 4 a.m.

The landslide affected a total of 79 villagers from 16 families, destroying their homes and cropland.

The landslide also disrupted power supply and communication and damaged country roads. Rescue work continues.
