Thousands displaced as rain batters NE. China

More than 23,000 people have been displaced as heavy rain battered several cities in northeastern China's Liaoning province on Monday.

Precipitation reached 145 millimeters in Tieling City on Monday, forcing 20,676 people to be relocated. About 3,000 people were evacuated to evade disaster in Benxi City.

China's meteorological authorities have issued warnings against floods in mountain areas in eastern part of the province.

Heavy rain across north and northeast China last week has left 164 people dead and 125 missing, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said.

More than 10 provincial-level regions had been battered by the bad weather. In the hardest hit provinces of Henan and Hebei, 514,000 people have been displaced and nearly 125,000 people are in urgent need of basic living assistance.
