China issues yellow alert for typhoon Nida

Typhoon Nida is expected to hit south China's Guangdong Province in the daytime of Tuesday, said the National Meteorological Center (NMC) in a yellow alert.

Nida, the fourth typhoon to hit China this year, was detected 380 km off the coast of Manila, the Philippines, at 8 a.m. Sunday.

The typhoon's maximum wind speed is 28 meters per second, but it is forecast to reach 38 to 45 meters per second as it makes landfall in Guangdong, according to the NMC.

The NMC warned of gales and torrential rain in coastal areas including Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
