China's middle class is expanding to be ever larger and most face a high sense of anxiety, said a report by a think-tank affiliated with the Beijing-based Central Institute of Socialism.

The middle class including private investors, business people and technical professionals is growing bigger, but is fragile, according to data.

Gao Liang, a researcher with the CITIC Foundation for Reform and Development Studies, said it's important to see continuing, diverse changes happen even inside the growing middle class.

The report said China's burgeoning middle class has brought changes to the social structure and poses new challenges to the administration.

Wen Tiejun, a professor with Renmin University of China, said innovation in administration can help the middle class make its voice heard and allow for participation in public affairs.
