Beijing will invest 4.25 billion yuan (US$616.57 million) in building a sub-center in 2017, mainly for the construction of the administrative area and supporting facilities, according to the annual work report of the Beijing municipal government.

The construction of the sub-center is now one of the top priorities of the city. The main structures in the office area of the first-stage project are expected to be completed by the end of March, with the second stage starting afterwards. Four municipal authorities and administrative departments will start to move to the sub-center by the end of 2017.

The construction has progressed well in 2016. This year, the government will formulate work plans on the basis of the sub-center’s functions and strictly carry them out.

The city has finished the overall design of the sub-center and the detailed design of six key areas, said acting mayor Cai Qi when he delivered the report. A total of 350 key projects covering infrastructure, ecological environment, public services and industry upgrading have been set up, among which 106 have commenced. The Universal Studios park is under construction. A number of rail transit and other connecting lines have been planned for alongside the urban road network. The landscape avenue under construction will connect the sub-center with the central city.
