Beijing sets 2017 GDP growth at 6.5%

Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission released Monday the performance tasks for 2017, targeting the city’s GDP growth at about 6.5 percent and CPI at about 3.5 percent.

A total of 230 key projects at municipal level will be launched in sectors including Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development, high-tech industries, environmental protection, infrastructure and people’s livelihood.

Beijing will implement 27 specific measures to promote private investment and further relax control over market access for the development of private economy.

The city will also advance the integrated reform of medical care, health insurance and drugs. Meanwhile, Beijing will complete the renovation of 36,000 homes in shantytowns and the construction of over 50,000 affordable houses.

The capital city will also work to strengthen the overall protection of historical and cultural relics including the Great Wall, the canal and Xishan Hill. The sandstorms that hit Beijing and Tianjin will be treated continuously from the sources. Environmental improvement and ecological restoration in the Yongding River, Chaobai River and North Canal will be jointly pushed forward by Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.
