Beijing issued a work permit to the CEO of BMW China Services Ltd. in the Chinese capital on June 26, making it the first work permit issued to foreigners in China since the launch of the new permit-to-work system nationwide.

The new work permit, combining the previous separate permits of “inbound employment permit for foreigners” and “work permit for foreign experts,” is a lawful document for foreigners to work in China. It has an auto-generated lifetime individual code for tracking holder’s personal information, administration and services. The permit will gradually establish mutual recognition among departments of diplomacy, public security, customs, tax administration, education, human resources and social security.

To better attract and serve foreign top talents, Beijing has especially opened a “green channel” for foreigner to apply for permits. The green channel supports online application without having to submitting paper materials.

In addition, service windows will be established in July in the foreigner-concentrated districts of Haidian, Chaoyang and Shunyi to facilitate foreigners to apply for work permits nearby.
