A medical officers' team led by Mu Jinsong, a doctor and army officer from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) 302 Hospital, made visits to mountainous villages in the Tibet Autonomous Region to provide free medical consultation, diagnosis and treatment for local people.

The medical trip started from July 7 to 15, during which Mu and his colleagues made clinical diagnoses for various difficult and complicated cases. Mu's hospital is well known for treating hydatid and he is particularly experienced in dealing with the disease.

Doctor Mu said that there is a high rate of hydatid incidence among local Tibetans. He cited some examples, saying that among the patients I diagnosed, one was gravely ill with a seven-cm-long hydatid.

In order to treat more patients in a short period time, Mu and his team were working around the clock, trudging across mountains and rivers to get to their patients. As Mandarin is not so popular among local people, translators were needed.

Mu also gave lectures to disseminate hygienic knowledge among Tibetan people and opened staff training classes for local medical workers. In the medical service center in Gongbujiangda Township of Linzhi, he organized discussions on preventive measures and cures of common diseases. He tried his best to explain profound medical ideas in simple, plainterms so that it can be easily understood and accepted by local people.

The nine-day trip involves more than 100 medical workers from over 60 hospitals and organizations from all parts of the country. In addition to free medical consultation and treatment, the medical team also offered material assistance to local people and medical centers.
