Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province have cracked a cross-border drug trafficking case, detaining two suspects and seizing 208 kg of methamphetamine, authorities said Thursday.

The two men were caught in a police ambush as they drove in an unmarked black sedan to the city of Jinghong on September 29. Police found 299 packages of methamphetamine that weighed 208 kg in total in their car.

The police received reports in mid-July that a group of people contacted a Myanmar drug trafficking ring and planned to ship drugs to China. Then they set up an investigation team and sent inspectors to key border areas.

Further investigation is under way.
