A total of 30 people have been arrested for stealing diesel in southwest China, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) said Wednesday.

During the joint operation that started on Jan. 31, police from southwest China's provinces of Guizhou and Sichuan, and Chongqing Municipality busted five diesel-stealing groups and two groups for selling the diesel.

Over 150 cases were solved with more than 400,000 yuan (63,860 U.S. dollars) involved, with 10 vehicles and a number of tools confiscated, according to the MPS.

On June 11, 2017, diesel was reported stolen from 12 carrier vehicles in Zunyi, Guizhou, resulting in a direct loss of over 20,000 yuan. Later a criminal network spanning Guizhou, Sichuan and Chongqing was discovered by the police.

The police found the groups usually targeted trucks and large vehicles in suburbs and used violence to steal the diesel.

The MPS slammed the crimes for severely infringing on the property of the people and enterprises, as well as damaging traffic safety.

The ministry promised to further crack down on such crimes and encouraged the public to report relevant information.
