Beijing's Q1 GDP grows 6.7 pct. year on year

According to the data released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Statistics and the Survey Office of the National Bureau of Statistics in Beijing on April 19, the value added of Beijing's primary industry in the first quarter was 1.53 billion yuan, down 12.8 percent year on year. The respective figures for the secondary and tertiary industries were 119.52 billion yuan, up 4.5 percent, and 559.1 billion yuan, up 7.4 percent. 

The city witnessed a steady economic performance in the first quarter. With intensive, innovative and accelerating green development, the efforts to pursue high-quality development are gradually paying off. 

From the industry perspective, the value added of Beijing's strategic emerging industries and high-tech industries at current prices increased by 18.6 percent and 14.6 percent year on year respectively. Emerging products such as smart television and integrated circuits increased rapidly by 4.1 times and 15.8 percent year on year respectively, and the revenue of the financial information service industry and online lending services achieved significant year-on-year growth of 81.9 percent and 53.6 percent respectively.

In addition, Beijing also had a good performance in green development in the first quarter, during which energy consumption continued going down, and a higher proportion of clean energy accounted for the city's industrial energy use. 

The energy consumption for per unit of value added of companies in the city with an annual main business income of 20 million yuan and above decreased by 10.8 percent year on year. The proportion of natural gas and electricity in industrial energy consumption for those companies was 78.8 percent, up 10.1 percentage points year on year.

Meanwhile, the city's environment continued to improve. Between January and February, the cumulative average concentration of PM2.5 in Beijing was 42 micrograms per cubic meter with a year-on-year decline of 55.8 percent, and the concentration of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide decreased by 50 percent and 33.9 percent respectively.
