The first Cross-Straits Chinese Studies Forumopened in Pingtan, Fujian province on April 23.
The three-day event brought together more than 200 Chinese culture lovers from home and abroad to exchange ideas on the development and inheritance of Chinese culture as well as plans for the Cross-Straits Chinese Studies Center and the cultural tourism zone at the Pingtan International Tourism Island.
Lin Wenyao, director of the management committee of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, said in his speech at the opening of the forum that Pingtan is working to foster closer cultural bonds between people across the Straits by establishing platforms for Chinese studies and the development and promotion of Chinese culture.
The opening of the forum also featured keynote speeches by Liang Tao, vice president of the School of Chinese Classics at Renmin University of China, Zeng Shiliang, an honorary professor at Nan Kai University of Technology, and Shi Benxing, executive vice director of the Buddhist Association of Fujian.
Unveiled at the forum's opening were the Cross-Straits Exchange and Experience Center of Chan Buddhism, the Pingtan Taiji Academy of Classical Learning and the Pingtan Xingwen Academy of Classical Learning.
Preparations for the establishment of the Cross-Straits Chinese Studies Center were also made at the forum. The center was designed to strengthen cross-Straits cultural connections and serve the development of a cultural tourism zone at the Pingtan International Tourism Island.
A total of 19 experts in Chinese culture were recruited as consultants for the center, overseen by Zeng Shiqiang, the "father of Chinese-style management."
The center signed cooperation agreements with its nine strategic partners from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, pledging to jointly promote Chinese culture and facilitate cross-Straits exchanges on Chinese studies.
Additionally, a variety of activities related to Chinese studies were held during the forum, including a virtual reality experience of Chinese culture, Peking opera courses and Taiji courses.
