China's top political advisor Wang Yang on Monday called for improved consultative work while underscoring the importance of group study.

Wang, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, made the remarks while presiding over the 4th chairman and vice chairpersons' meeting of the 13th CPPCC National Committee.

Wang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said Monday's meeting was also the first group study by the chairman and vice chairpersons' meeting, marking the establishment and enforcement of the group study mechanism by the chairman and vice chairpersons' meeting.

Wang stressed the importance of implementing the CPC Central Committee's requirements on the work of CPPCC so as to enable CPPCC committees to better fulfill their duties in the new era.

He asked CPPCC committees to pool the wisdom of the Chinese both at home and abroad to make contributions to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wang stressed the need to uphold the party's leadership, saying it was an important prerequisite for multiparty cooperation and political consultation.

He also called on CPPCC committees to play their due role in developing socialist democracy.

The schedule and draft agenda of the second meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee, which will be held from June 25 to 27 in Beijing, were also approved at Monday's meeting.

Other regulations, including the submission of annual reports by standing committee members of the CPPCC National Committee, were also adopted at the meeting.

The CPPCC is a mechanism of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC.
