Industrial added value grows by 7.6 pct. in Beijing

From January to April, the value added of Beijing's industrial enterprises above the designated scale (annual turnover reaching 200 million yuan) grew by 7.6 percent year on year, according to an announcement by the city's statistics bureau on May 16. The city's economic momentum remains stable and high-quality development keeps progressing, according to the announcement.

"High-end manufacturing industry has continued to play a leading role in the entire industrial development," said an official of the statistics bureau. 

The official said the high-tech manufacturing and emerging industries of strategic importance achieved high growth rates of 20.2 percent and 16.2 percent, respectively. Among the key industries, the pharmaceutical industry grew by 22.7 percent; the manufacturing industry of computers, telecommunication products and other electronic equipment grew by 21.7 percent; the production and supply of electricity and thermal energy increased by 16.6 percent; and the general equipment manufacturing industry grew by 5.9 percent. 

Investment has also poured into the high-grade and emerging industries. Investment in the information transmission, software and information technology service industry recorded a growth rate of 140 percent, while leasing and commercial services industry received 49.7 percent more investment in the first four months this year. 

Meanwhile, personal income has increased steadily, leading to higher quality in consumer spending. 

Consumer spending reached 836.11 billion yuan from January to April, an increase of 8.6 percent year on year. Among it, spending on services reached 485.02 billion yuan, accounting for more than half of the entire consumer spending. Spending on transportation and telecommunication, education, culture and entertainment, as well as medical care has also increased significantly. 

In addition, the city has attracted more inbound tourists. In April, inbound trips to Beijing reached 429,000, topping 400,000 for the first time since November 2016.
