Beijing Expo 2019 eyes October for project completion

A second group of sponsors has signed up for Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 (Beijing Expo 2019), the expo's organizer announced on May 17. According to the Bureau of Affairs Coordination for Beijing Expo 2019, by the end of October, all public landscape arrangements and infrastructure construction projects other than seasonal flowers will be completed. At the same time, the major venues of the expo -- known as the "four stadiums and one center" -- will be ready to open, and the Smart Horticulture Exhibition project will start, with all tasks entering final sprint phase.

The first group of five global partners signed on was announced in April 2017. This second group includes four new global partners: Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd., Beijing Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Jingdong Century Trading Co., Ltd., and the Beijing branch of China Telecommunications Corporation. The new senior sponsors are: the Beijing branch of the People's Insurance Company of China, Beiing Gehua Advertising Co., Ltd, Beijing Green Garden Group Co., Ltd., and Yunnan Xintong Culture Communication Co., Ltd.

Also by the end of October, the expo will finalize the general ticket policy, complete the deployment of the first-phase ticketing system, open advance booking and the ticketing hotline for individual tourists, plan for volunteer recruitment and training, and begin recruiting volunteers.

As of today, the design schemes of the 31 provincial-level exhibition parks are complete, and 10 exhibition parks have started construction. In addition, 96 countries and international organizations have sent written confirmations that they will take part in Beijing Expo 2019, and the exhibition schemes of five countries, including the U.K., Denmark and the Netherlands, have received approval. The expo organizer estimated that by the end of May, construction of the Africa-America Joint Exhibition Park and the Pakistan Exhibition Park would commence; India, Japan, Qatar, Burma and Yemen will start work on their exhibitions in June; and the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Germany, the Netherlands and Azerbaijan will launch their operations from July to August.
