Police in central China's metropolis of Wuhan burned 380 kg of seized narcotic drugs Thursday, ahead of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which falls on Tuesday.

The drugs included heroin and crystal meth. About 1,000 kg of drug-making materials were also destroyed, according to the police of Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province.

The drugs and materials were seized in 2,613 drug-related cases in recent years in the city.

China is one of the countries with harshest drug laws. Those who are caught with drug abuse could be forced to attend drug rehab in facilities run by the government, and the maximum sentence for anyone selling or producing more than 50 grams of heroin is the death penalty.
