Beijing will relocate 1,000 general manufacturers and clear out companies the city deems to be "scattered, messy and polluting" by 2020, according to a new action plan issued by the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission recently.

According to the commission, the plan aims to promote the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region between 2018 and 2020. An official from the commission said 2018 is the starting year for the medium-term goal for the coordinated development and 2020 is the deadline. By then, the region will welcome an initial stage of the coordinated development that is beneficial to all areas in the region.

The official said Beijing is focused on its task of adjusting and relocating "non-capital functions." In the first six months of the year, Beijing has closed down 473 general manufacturers, upgraded 112 markets and 15 logistics centers, constructed and upgraded 742 convenience stores, and rejected 903 applications to either update business registrations or register new businesses.

Meanwhile, the relocation of a number of colleges and hospitals is also underway. The second-phase project of the Liangxiang Campus of Beijing Technology and Business University has started, the buildings for the first phase of the Huairou Campus of Beijing Film Academy have finished construction, and the project of the Yizhuang branch of Beijing Tongren Hospital is in progress.
