Police in southwest China's Yunnan province arrested three drug traffickers and seized more than 31 kilograms of methamphetamine pills, the local public security department said Monday.

Three cars carrying drugs broke through checkpoints set by police in Dali Bai autonomous prefecture early Sunday morning. The police later intercepted the cars at noon and found 55 bags of methamphetamine tablets in the trunk.

The suspects are currently being held in police custody. The case is under further investigation.

Yunnan is the main focal point of China's anti-drug campaign as it borders the Golden Triangle, known for drug production and trafficking in southeast Asia.
