The "City of Design" New Platform Summit Forum, also known as the Taihu Session of the 2018 Beijing International Design Week, was held in Beijing's Tongzhou district on Sept. 25.

At the end of 2017, Beijing mapped out an industrial blueprint stating that Tongzhou shall develop an industrial layout with the town of Taihu town as the core to undertake the design and creative resources of the downtown city and form a new platform of the "City of Design."

On Sept. 25, Taihu town signed a letter of intent for cooperation with the National Center for the Performing Arts Taihu Choreography Center, BUCC and Beijing Daily Shouchuang Cultural Investment Management Co.

To advance the construction of the "City of Design" new platform, three projects will be launched. Third, the town would introduce cultural and creative enterprises to re-develop the industrial premises that are laid idle, speeding up the transformation and upgrading of enterprises at Zhongguancun Opto-Electrical and Mechanical Park as well as cross-industrial integration.

At the forum, Yan Aoshuang, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, gave her endorsement to Taihu's blueprint to develop the design industry. She said that in developing a new urban area, the creativity-driven economy will be the driving force for urban development, and the development of the design industry is in line with the functions, industrial positioning and development requirements of Tongzhou as the sub-center of Beijing.
