Beijing comes in second in the "urban construction index" of the annual development report of China's central cities released by Zhengzhou Normal University and Social Sciences Academic Press released on Sept. 25.
Beijing takes the second spot in the ranking with a score of 0.5610.
According to the report, also known as the "2018 Blue Book of China's Central Cities," the index evaluates urban construction in Chinese cities in three major aspects. The first is a city's functions, covering six categories including integrated services, network hubs, technological innovation, communication and exchange, cultural cohesion and livability. The second major aspect extends from the first, examining 15 more specific aspects of cities covering economic vitality, production services, public services, information hubs, transportation hubs, innovative resources, scientific research platforms, factor inputs, innovations, international trade, foreign exchange, city brand, cultural atmosphere, environment and habitability. The third major aspect is a combination of 50 indicators that can reflect a city's urban construction standard objectively.
