During the National Mass Innovation and Entrepreneurship Week in Beijing on Oct. 15, the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission announced 100 major science and technology achievements by the national science and innovation center, with more than 60 from enterprises and 30-plus from universities and research institutes.

Along with the announcement, the commission said Beijing will take an active part in major national science and technology projects, such as aircraft engines, the deep-sea space stations, and other major projects listed in the "scientific and technological innovation 2030 project." The commission said the city will lead 40 percent of the national key R&D projects, and establish three national research centers.

The 100 major achievements cover various fields in cutting-edge science and technology, national major development strategies, the development of sophisticated industries, the capital's construction, and social development and reforms in science and technology mechanisms.

For instance, Shougang Group's technologies in high-strength and easy-welding thick plates and supporting welding materials have been applied in the construction of nine large hydropower projects in countries along the Belt and Road. Tsinghua University's key technologies for environmental and energy-saving designs of green public buildings can save 260 million kilowatt hours and cut carbon dioxide emission by 223,000 tons annually.

Over 60 percent of the achievements come from enterprises, who have become the major player of technological innovation. Part of the achievements have been put into application through cooperation among industries, universities and research institutes.

During the announcement event, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology held a signing ceremony for 10 projects, all focusing on high-tech and sophisticated fields, such as the 2G DNA sequencing equipment and its supporting diagnostic reagents, as well as the self-driving systems.

Among the 10 projects, four will be based in Beijing E-Town, three in Shunyi district, two in Fangshan district, and one in Daxing district. The projects cover fields of biomedicine, automobile transport, electronic information, intelligent equipment, software, and energy. The signing of the projects demonstrates Beijing's remarkable achievements in original innovation, technological innovation, achievement transformation and industrialization, guiding enterprises to focus on sustainable urban development, improvement in people's livelihood, and development of sophisticated industries.

At the event, the Beijing Business Incubation Association also announced the top 10 sci-tech achievements for mass innovation and entrepreneurship, and "hard" innovation.
