Death toll rises to 21 in east China mine accident

With two more miners being confirmed dead, the death toll of the rock burst accident at a coal mine in east China's Shandong Province has risen to 21, local authorities announced Monday afternoon.

Among the miners trapped after the rock burst, only one survived, authorities said.

The accident occurred at Longyun Coal Mining Co. Ltd. in Yuncheng County on Oct. 20. A total of 22 people were trapped in a tunnel after coal fell at both ends from the rock burst.

Rescue work has been completed, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
