Beijing ranks first in innovation among Chinese cities, according to a research report published on Thursday.

The report, issued by the Capital Institute of Science and Technology Development Strategy (CISTDS), studies the cities through 26 indexes from four innovation-related perspectives, including resources, environment, services, and performance.

The report ranks Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai at the first three places in the top 10 Chinese cities in terms of innovation. They are followed by Guangzhou, Nanjing, and Wuhan.

The report says that innovation services represent a city's core competitiveness, and Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin are ranked at the first three places in this regard.

Beijing continues to showcase its strength as the country's sci-tech innovation center, the report says. The Chinese capital ranks first in innovation resources, services, and performance, and its overall sci-tech innovation and development level kept rising from 2005 to 2017. Some Beijing-based scientists and researchers have led key original findings in recent years, such as the quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) effect and the Majorana fermion.
