Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign launched in Guiyang

The National Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign City Tour was officially launched in Guiyang on October 31.

Guided by the office of the Food Safety Commission of the State Council and All-China Women's Federation, the Campaign is jointly held by China Children and Teenagers Foundation and China Nutrition and Health Food Association. The launching ceremony was co-hosted by Guizhou Women's Federation, Guizhou Women and Children's Development Foundation, and Guiyang Women's Federation; co-organized by Guizhou Psychological Association, No. 5 Senior High School of GuanShanHu District; and sponsored by Walmart Foundation; it is also supported by Guizhou Food and Drug Administration, Health and Family Planning Commission of Guizhou Province, and Guiyang GuanShanHu District Education Bureau. 

Han Lina, director of the office of Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign in CCTF, attended the ceremony and expressed her gratitude to the local supports. 

She said, "In order to implement the State Council's food safety work plan and assist the government in establishing a social co-governance food safety management system, National Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign is dedicated to work with social organizations to safeguard the food safety for children. We hope to take this Campaign as an opportunity to work with relevant departments in Guizhou Province and Guiyang City to promote food safety education in Guiyang, so that more children and families can know about food safety."

Yang Jing, vice president of the Guizhou Women's Federation extended her heartfelt thanks to all people concerning about the Children's Food Safety. 

She said "Guizhou Women's Federation attaches great importance to the work for children, and we hope all base schools and communities could implement the Campaign, and teachers, students, and parents can take the initiative to learn about food safety knowledge so as to achieve the effect of Encouraging students; Benefiting households; Influencing society."

This campaign in Guiyang was sponsored by Walmart Foundation. Walmart Foundation started to funding the Campaign since it was launched, and has made great contributions to the promotion of children's food safety. Dr. Yan Zhinong, representative of Walmart Foundation, and the executive director of Walmart Food Safety Collaboration Center cited the story of Wang Yangming, a historical figure from Guiyang, at the ceremony, to stress the importance of integrity in food safety area, and called on students to raise the awareness of food safety. 

At the ceremony, leaders and guests conferred the bronze medal of the National Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign education demonstration base to the representatives of the eight donated schools in Guiyang, and presented children's food safety thematic comic books to two community representatives. In the next month, the Campaign will carry out 10 experience camps in eight primary schools and two communities, and donate 10,800 comic books and 1000 hands-on learning boxes, which will benefit over 100,000 children as estimated. 

After the launching ceremony, children rushed to the Mobile Experience Camp to visit the five theme experience zones. Coring at Five Elements of Food Safety, the experience camp innovates the food safety education with VR, AR, hand-wash sensor machine, food safety thematic comic books, etc. Children can enjoy the relaxing moments while understanding food safety subtly and learn the behavior code of safe dining. At the same, a large amount of interactive food safety games, different from the traditional teaching model, could give children a happy time to learn about food safety and nutrition.

Set aside the experience camp, the Campaign also invited Hu Xiaoqi, expert from the Committee of Experts of National Children's Food Safety Guard Campaign and researcher from Institute for Nutrition and Food Safety of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention to provide a food safety open class for children. She explained the food safety knowledge to children in a simple way while teaching children the correct diet habit to become a "healthy-diet" teenager.

Food is the prime need for people, while food safety is the priority, as it can influence thousands of households. Children are the nation's future; therefore, children's food safety should be the top priority. At this ceremony, representatives from CCTF, Guizhou Women's Federation, Guizhou Children and Teenagers Foundation, Guizhou Food and Drug Administration, Health and Family Planning Commission of Guizhou Province, Guiyang Women's Federation, Guiyang GuanShanHu District Education Bureau, schools, communities and enterprises all take part in the exchange meeting. School representatives stressed that the vendors around school are difficult to rectify, which brought quite a lot food safety risks to students. In regard to this question, representative of Guizhou Food and Drug Administration said that the problem of small vendors has always been the focus of their regulation, and there will be more standardized guide to ensure food safety. When it comes to food safety education, all representatives recognized and praised the education model and content. Based on that, the meeting envisaged some channels including parents group, parent's committee, and promotion documents such as the long picture comic books for online dissemination, and short videos, so as to strengthen the food safety knowledge of parents, which are fundamental to guarding children's food safety.

Of particular note, Dr. Yan Zhinong shared his life experience with children and encouraged them to study hard to become a responsible people in the future.
