A 40-episode documentary on Beijing's achievements of the 40 years of reform and opening-up started to air on Nov. 12, the city announced at a release conference yesterday.

The documentary series, "40 Years On -- Beijing Blooming With Us," was the result of joint efforts of the Information Office of the Beijing Municipal People's Government and Gmw.cn.

The series features 40 expats from 22 countries around the world to talk about their life and work in the Chinese capital to give a perspective on the city's transformation in terms of lifestyle, cityscape and innovation capabilities over the past 40 years.

The expats, including representatives and diplomats from U.N. agencies and foreign embassies, representatives from foreign media organizations based in China, experts and academics in economy, science and technology and sports, are aged between 30 and 70, with one who lived in Beijing the longest at 47 years.

According to the schedule, at least one episode will be broadcast per day.

Du Feijin, a standing member of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and director of its Publicity Department, said the making of the documentary series was aimed to record the growth of Beijing through the camera lens in a unique way.

He said that summarizing the experience of reform and opening up is not only the best way to celebrate the 40 years of hard work, but it also injects impetus into the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
