The State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company recently launched emergency power transmission and other services to better address power lapses on short notice, and ensure that the 1.2 million Beijing households that switched from coal to electricity as heating source would have a warm winter.

As of October, the task of "coal to electricity reform" during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020) in Beijing had been completed two years ahead of schedule, eliminating coal as heating source in the city's plain areas.

In response to concerns over power outage during the heating season, the Beijing municipal government set up 271 "coal to electricity" repair points, enabling repair personnel to reach the power outage sites within 30 minutes and restore power within five hours.

In addition, each village has a "power housekeeper," who can contact the maintenance network hotline of the heating equipment manufacturer so that they can come to repair in due time.

According to the load distribution of "coal to electricity" lines, the State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company has improved the lines with heavy load pressure and increased the patrol inspections on these lines. Furthermore, the operational status of the "coal to electricity" stations will be monitored around the clock.

"Coal to electricity" users in the rural areas would not have to leave their communities to buy electricity. Electricity could be purchased through the Mobile Power App, WeChat account, Alipay, mobile banking, and other means. People could also go to the village post offices, supermarket sales outlets, and farmers' cash withdrawal service outlets to buy electricity.

In case of power failure, residents can dial the 95598 customer service hotline or use the Mobile Power App to get 24-hour emergency power transmission service, said Long Guobiao, deputy director of the Marketing Department of State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company. The power supply can be restored within one hour.

The grid power company set up 136 service teams of CPC members and 492 service stations for emergency power restoration and grid operation and maintenance.

Zhoukoudian village in Fangshan district, located in the shallow mountainous area of the Yanshan Mountains, gets very cold in winter. On Nov. 21, Liu Xingyi and Hong Dapeng, members of the power supply service team, checked the operation of the "coal to electricity" heating equipment of the household of Zhoukoudian resident Qiu Deshun, who had just completed the switch to electric heating. "I won't have to get up late at night to change the briquettes any more," Qiu said. "The home is kept at 20 degrees Celsius, and my little granddaughter won't feel cold any longer."
