Shanghai has unveiled a three-year action plan to build high-end manufacturing parks for biological medicine by 2020, as the city seeks to become a biomedical innovation hub, Thursday's China Daily quoted local authorities as reporting.

The parks are planned in the city's Jinshan and Fengxian districts and the Lingang Area based on existing industrial parks, with a focus on medical devices, beauty and biopharmaceuticals respectively, according to the Action Plan to Promote the High Quality Development of the Bio-Medicine Industry in Shanghai (2018-20).

The parks will be coordinated at the city level to cooperate with Zhangjiang Pharma Valley, a state-level bio-medicine industrial base, and maintain high-end and green development, Cao Hongming, director of the bio-medicine division of Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, was quoted as saying.

Shanghai expects its bio-medicine industry to generate 400 billion yuan (about 58.2 billion U.S. dollars) in 2020, according to the plan.

The industry's output reached more than 304 billion yuan last year in Shanghai, a year-on-year increase of over 5.8 percent.
